چکیده

A case of cardiomyopathy with systemic emboli is reported. Two dimensional and M-mode echocardiography showed abnormal intracavitary echoes. After further systemic emboli, echocardiograms showed the complete disappearance of the abnormal echoes found previously in the apex, which suggested that the emboli resulted from detachment of the left ventricular mural thrombi.

Comparison of two-dimensional echocardiography and ultrafast cardiac computed tomography for evaluating intracardiac thrombi in cerebral ischemia.

Two-dimensional echocardiography has a high specificity for the detection of intracardiac thrombi, but technically difficult studies are often encountered. Ultrafast cardiac computed tomography may be useful in such cases. Using transthoracic two-dimensional echocardiography and ultrafast cardiac computed tomography, we studied 36 patients with cerebral ischemia; one patient had the studies per...

Lack of correlation between intracavitary thrombosis detected by cross sectional echocardiography and systemic emboli in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.

The correlation between intracavitary thrombosis detected by cross sectional echocardiography and systemic embolism was studied in 126 consecutive patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy who were examined from January 1980 to September 1987. A total of 1041 serial echocardiograms were obtained with 3.5 and 5 MHz transducers. The mean follow up period was 41.2 months. The survival rate w...

Left Ventricular “Horseshoe-Thrombus”—A Case Report

Thrombi represent the most frequently found intracardiac masses. Left ventricular thrombus (LVT) is an important complication in patients with ischemic heart diseases and in those with dilated cardiomyopathy and systolic heart failure. The diagnosis of left ventricular thrombus remains important since anticoagulation will reduce the risk of systemic embolization and stroke. Despite advances in ...

Multiple intracardiac thrombi complicated by pulmonary embolism.

In January 2014, a 22-year-old woman with a known diagnosis of peripartum dilated cardiomyopathy presented to the emergency department with a 3-week history of dyspnea and orthopnea. The symptoms had worsened in the previous night. The initial evaluation included an echocardiogram showing thrombi in the left ventricular (Figure 1, stripes), left atrial (Figure 2A, arrow) and right ventricular (...

Regression of intracardiac thrombus after embolic stroke.

Using two-dimensional echocardiography, we studied the pathophysiology of intracardiac thrombus regression accompanied by anticoagulant therapy in 82 consecutive patients with acute cardiogenic cerebral embolism. We noted intracardiac thrombus in 15 patients; nine of the 15 were started on anticoagulant therapy with warfarin potassium to maintain the prothrombin time between 2.5 and 3.5 (intern...
